Glory days of 1985 1st XV

Hamish Murray, Dan Parker, David Tudehope, Tim Stace, Ali Grigg, Jim Hazlett, Damon Jones, Tim Cameron, Guy Flynn, Ben Greenslade, Simon Batchelor, Nick Reekie, Hamish Redfern, Stephen Cottrell, and Andrew Crossland returned to College to celebrate their standout season, and watch the next generation of College players.

Attending their 40 years on rugby reunion on the day of the annual College vs 国产午夜福church Boys鈥 High School game, the players also reunited with their coach 鈥 and long-time College teacher 鈥 Jerry Rowberry.

The 1985 1st XV team won 20 of its 21 regular-season games and drew one game. It was also unbeaten in the Quadrangular Tournament and during a North Island tour.

Among the returning players was Steve Cottrell, who went on to play for Otago and Wellington, and led the College team to a remarkable season record. College scored 564 points, with only 82 points recorded against the side. That included 105 tries. Another impressive player, Tim Cameron, lined up in 71 games over four years as a member of the 1st XV.

Former Canterbury player Joe Leota, who returned to College for his 50 years on reunion on the same day, was also named in the 1st XV in Fourth Form (Year 10).

This year, College hosted members of the 1985, 1975, 1965, 1960, and 1955 1st XV prior to the College vs CBHS match on Upper.
